Moderation, suspensions, and appeals
The actions staff can take, which violations skip the warning stage, and how to appeal a decision.
Herix staff review reports and enforce the Community Guidelines. They look at the circumstances, severity, intent, and history of each case, so the same kind of violation does not always get the same response.
What staff can do
- Issue a warning
- Remove or hide content
- Restrict commenting
- Temporarily suspend an account
- Remove a story from public view
- Suspend a writer from the writing program
- Permanently remove an account
Common escalations
Advertising your work in another author's story or comments without permission:
- 01First violation. A warning.
- 02Continued violations. A one-week commenting restriction.
Knowingly submitting AI-generated fiction follows a warning, then a one-week suspension, then permanent removal from the writing program. Manipulating ratings through multiple accounts or other deception can lead to suspension.
Violations that skip the warning
May result in immediate suspension or removal
- Sexual content involving minors, or sexualization of minors
- Bestiality
- Hate content
- Serious harassment or threats against another person
- Plagiarism
- Deliberately submitting AI-generated fiction
- Impersonation
- Instructions facilitating serious wrongdoing
- Evading a suspension, including by making another account
If your story was unpublished
When staff unpublish a story, it goes back to your drafts with nothing deleted. Fix what was raised and you can publish it again from your dashboard, or appeal as described below if you think it was a mistake.
How to appeal
- Open the contact form and choose Account & Technical Support.
- Say which action you are appealing and on which story, comment, or account.
- Explain why it should be reconsidered, and include anything the original review may have missed.
Appeals are reviewed case by case. An appeal does not guarantee the decision will change, and creating a new account while suspended will make things worse rather than better.
